Combination oral contraceptives act by suppression of gonadotropins.

$ 37.00          Back

Quantity:

Combination oral contraceptives act by suppression of gonadotropins. Although the primary mechanism of this action is inhibition of ovulation, other alterations include changes in the cervical mucus (which increase the difficulty of sperm entry into the uterus) and the endometrium (which reduce the likelihood of implantation).

Desogestrel, the progestogen component of Marvelon, displays low androgenic activity in relation to its progestogenic effects and may increase the HDL/LDL ratio and apoprotein A-1/B ratio without affecting HDL2. Like other oral contraceptives, these changes in lipid profile can be associated with an increase in triglycerides.

Marvelon - ethinyl estradiol is an estrogen and progestin combination pill used for the prevention of pregnancy. It works by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary) and causing changes in the mucus of the cervix which make it difficult for sperm to penetrate and for an egg to implant. It may also be taken to regulate the menstrual cycle.

Your doctor may choose to use a medication for conditions other than the ones listed in these drug information articles. If you're unsure why you are taking Marvelon, contact your doctor.
